Samsung Story Station 1.5TB Hard Drive Review

I personally use a LOT of storage space. Producing video eats up terrabytes, so having some reliable backup solution is very important. The Samsung Story Station offers up some serious storage in a nice looking package. You will also find a handy formatting tip for Mac users. Check out the review below.

Still working well. No disconnecting problems. Data transfer is not its fastest, but it works very well. No heat generation either.

Thank you for the review, this answers a lot of my questions. Hiowever, I have a couple more:

1. Can I use any standard 12v power supply and connector like the ones that come with Western Digital external drivers?

2. I was thinking of buying a couple of these, can you tell me if they are stackable? They look like they are, but I can tell for sure without physically inpecting one!

Thanks again.

@Oz... As far as I know you would need to use the power supply that comes with the drive.
They are not stackable, which is a BIG shame. The top is curved on the edges, so when stacked they just slip off.

Thanks for that Davo. One more question, what's the model and speed (RPM)of the drive in the Story Station?

@Oz, not sure of the model, but it is a 5400rpm drive.

I took the plunge and bought one and I have to say it's been great.

I use it to play movies on my new TV (Samsung LE40B650) which has a built-in media player.

It's quiet, generates little heat.

I can also answer one of my questions regarding the use of a 12v power supply from a Western Digitalexternal hard drive. It works, so I can manually copy files to it at my PC without lugging over it's power supply.

Great hard drive!

Oz :o)

Hi Mate, thanks for your top tip to format the story drive for OSX. I followed it to the letter but having no joy with 10.6 however, after the format I cant copy any files to it, error -36, its working fine with my other imac running 10.5? Its definitely GUID Mac formatted as you mention but seems Snow Leopard is having problems with this Story drive, is it just mine or anyone else got the same problem?

Hi,

Does anyone know how to use the 1.5Tb Story Station to backup Outlook emails? Is there any software that can do this automatically?

are you kidding, that was an awful review! No mention of how loud it is, data performance etc, it was basically a "what do you get in the box" and "how do i set this up on a mac!?" guide :(
